15:00 Pilgrimage Past & Present: 24-27 June 2013. Why is pilgrimage such a vital part of world religions? During this residential course Anthony Weaver will look at the origins of pilgrimage, the great medieval pilgrimages in Europe & the major modern pilgrimage centres, including Santiago de Compostela, Assisi & Lourdes. There will also be a discussion about the reasons for the growth of pilgrimage in the modern world.
